Jill Dempsey is one of the hosts of Toronto’s number one morning show, Metro Morning.

Her news team is the recipient of the Dan McArthur award for best local news cast in 2013 and in 2015 won the award regionally and then at the national level.

Jill’s career spans over 40-years.

She started working in Northern Ontario as an on-air reporter and anchor for television and radio.  She’s worked behind the scenes as a writer and producer at City TV.

Jill arrived at the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation June 1989, anchoring Calgary’s late night news. After two months she was tapped as a backup host for Newsworld, now known as CBC News newtwork.

Jill’s move to radio came in 1991 when she joined CBC Radio One’s Metro Morning. After two years of getting up at the crack of dawn, Jill took over the daytime newscasts. Besides reading and writing the news, Jill has filled in on Fresh Air, Radio Noon and Here and Now. Jill was seconded to the position of co-host on The World at Six with Barbara Smith from the fall of 2002 to the spring of 2003.

Jill is a graduate of York University with a BA in Political Science.  She also completed the Radio and Television program at Canadore College in North Bay.

This is Jill’s first year teaching in the Journalism program, but she is a long time instructor for Ryerson’s RTA faculty.

Jill also works as a trainer and mentor, assisting hosts and newsreaders in both Radio and Television at CBC.
