The need for good, strong journalism has never as apparent as it is now. Its value has been underscored more recently by high schoolers in the U.S., where student journalists have reported on activism against gun culture in the wake of the Parkland shootings.
That’s why Ryerson University’s School of Journalism is excited to offer your students a special opportunity to come to campus for a one-day conference on the importance of student journalism.
The conference, which offers a series of workshops, will run May 3, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Students will have the opportunity to hear guest speakers from CBC, BuzzFeed, Ryerson School of Journalism and others, on their real-world experience being a journalist. Here are some breakout topics:
- How to spot fake news
- Photojournalism tips
- Reporting on news in your high school
- Video reporting
We’ll also offer a session for teachers offering help on running high school news outlets.
