Reporters and Editors (Summer) REF#: JG1000

Brunswick News Inc.
Location: , New Brunswick
Posted: December 17, 2016

Brunswick News is hiring reporters and editors for paid positions over the summer of 2017 with Atlantic Canada’s most dynamic media group.  These are jobs — not internships — for emerging professional journalists who will help cover the news of New Brunswick in locations around the province.
Our growing network of media outlets follows an aggressive digital-first approach to publishing while serving print readers with three daily newspapers, more than a dozen weekly newspapers and magazines. Our journalists have earned more than 150 Atlantic Journalism Awards.
We are looking for reporters with curiosity, a keen news sense, a hunger to break stories and a clean, clear writing style. Skills in photography, video and graphics are definitely an asset.
We are looking for editors with a broad range of skills, from fact-checking and copy-editing to writing headlines and news alerts, choosing photos and participating in digital and print production.

  • University or college-level studies in journalism or related education.
  • Previous newsroom experience is preferred, but not necessary.
  • Clear writing style and a demonstrated ability to work quickly and accurately on deadline.
  • Organizational skills and the ability to multi-task, particularly in high-stress situations.
  • Sound knowledge of Canadian Press style.
  • Excellent command of the English language (fluency in French is an asset).
  • An understanding of media law.
  • Knowledge of social media platforms and content.
  • Must be legally eligible to work in Canada through September, 2017.
  • For reporters, the ability to shoot compelling photo and video.
  • For reporters, a valid driver’s licence. Access to a reliable vehicle is required for some positions.
  • For editors, painstaking attention to detail.
  • For editors, a demonstrated ability to learn and quickly master a variety of computer applications.

To apply, email a cover letter stating you found this job on Jeff Gaulin’s Job Board, resume and work samples by January 23, 2017. We thank all candidates for their interest, but only those selected for interviews will be contacted.
